Champions League/EPL Update

The EPL is now 14 games in and Arsenal is looking for a little breathing room, but all of the top five clubs have upcoming matches they should win. The top of the table looks like this: Played Points

Man Utd1533
Man City1530

Champions League
Celtic booked their place in the knockout round by "backing in" after a 1-0 loss in San Siro. Celtic went into the game needing a point to be certain of finishing second in Group D, but with Shakhtar Donetsk going down 2-1 at home to Benfica, the Scottish giants were able to celebrate regardless of their own result, but they don't look like they have the fortitude necessary to go much further. The rest of the Champions League fixtures for December 11.
  • FC Porto Vs. Besiktas

  • Marseille vs. Liverpool

  • Chelsea vs. Valencia
  • Schalke vs. Rosenborg

  • Real Madrid vs. Lazio

  • Olympiakos vs. Werder Bremen

  1. Gordon Strachan-

To get through is just wonderful for the club. We must be pleased to get out of that group. I think that could have been the hardest group.

  2. northschild-

woooo! ugly but we'll take it!

  3. Fine. Let Celtic 'back in' as you say, that's one less team we have to worry about in the knockout round!

We are the CHELSEA Boys we like to make some noise!

  4. Hey Gordon,

You MUST be downn' too much Irish Stout!! The hardest group???!!!! Group B with Chelsea, Rosenborg, Schalke 04, and Valencia was the "Group of Death" just be content you were not in that group or a loss on a day like this would have been your ticket home!

  5. The Trondheim club are not in the best of shape for a Champions League campaign. Domestic top dogs in 14 out of the last 15 years, they seem most unlikely to repeat the trick in 2007, trailing behind pacesetters Brann Bergen and Lillestrom. Rosenborg's away form has proved disappointing to say the least and there is a real danger that they might not even qualify for next season's UEFA Cup.

  6. kliengel-

Valencia took up their now familiar place in the group stages of the Champions League with a comfortable win against Swedish kings Elfsborg and a decent group stage draw means they can look forward to another lengthy run.
